Al-Ahli are one of Saudi Arabia’s established clubs, founded in 1937 and carrying a profile that now sits comfortably within the country’s heavily resourced football landscape.
The current squad is sizeable – 34 players, with an average age of 26 – and is valued at around £148m by Transfermarkt. That gives a fair indication of the level of investment behind them, without needing to dress it up as anything more romantic.
Their 2026-27 campaign is already well under way, and recent league form has been strong. Since a 2-0 defeat at Al-Nassr, Al-Ahli have put together five straight wins, including a 4-1 away victory at Al-Khaleej and a 4-0 home win over Al-Okhdood.
For Celtic supporters, Al-Ahli are best understood as a well-funded, in-form Saudi side with a deep squad and current momentum. They are not a historical reference point for Celtic, but they are a serious modern opponent.
