Cameron Carter-Vickers, born in Southend-on-Sea on 31 December 1997 (age 28), is a United States centre-half and a current Celtic first-team player. He wears the number 20 shirt and has become one of the steadier parts of the side since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2021.
His route to Celtic was not a straight line out of Tottenham’s academy and into regular senior football. A run of loan spells in England gave him the kind of grounding centre-backs tend to need: games, awkward afternoons, and enough exposure to the less forgiving bits of the job. By the time Celtic took him from Spurs, he was no longer just a well-regarded young defender waiting for a chance.
His first Celtic season was also his most productive in league terms, with four goals in 33 Premiership appearances in 2021-22. More importantly, he quickly gave Celtic a calmer presence at the back. Since then he has been part of a successful domestic period, winning three Premiership titles, three League Cups and two Scottish Cups.
In 2025-26, Carter-Vickers has made seven league appearances, along with one in the League Cup, two in Champions League qualifying and three in the Europa League. Across all competitions that leaves him on 13 Celtic appearances for the season without a goal. His current market value is around £8.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
Carter-Vickers’ career has been shaped by Tottenham, hardened by loans, and properly established at Celtic. He remains an important central defender in the current squad, with enough already done in Glasgow to be judged by more than promise.
