Danny Wilson, a product of Scotland's winter loins, was born on the closing edges of 1991, marking him on the mature side of the game at 33 years. Wouldn't say he's ancient, but safe to say, his knees might creak more these mornings. Stationed primarily as a central defender for Livingston, this 6ft 2in (1.88m) figure wears number 27 on his back. A healthy 12st 3lb (78kg) claim him to be.
He's estimated to be worth a whopping £128k in today's markets as per Transfermarkt and to think, some folks win more on a scratchcard.
Danny cut his teeth at Rangers, joining as a trainee back in 2007. He enjoyed several half-decent seasons, soldiering on through various frigid winters and increasingly ridiculous haircuts. He had modest success during his time at Ibrox, notching up a handful of goals before parting ways in 2010 to pursue Premier League dreams at Liverpool, for a casually mentioned fee of £2m.
Poor lad must have thought he’d made it big. Sadly for our Scotsman, he barely scraped two appearances for the Liver birds before summersaulting into stints at Blackpool and Bristol City – loan after loan, they all blur into one it seems. But a return to his homeland in 2013 offered a reprieve when he committed to a spell with Hearts.
Perhaps it was the council flat weather or the intoxicating melody of the bagpipes, but he found a sweet spot. His seasons with Hearts were arguably more fruitful, padding the stats with a few more goals, and evidently filling his heart with a dose of sentimentality towards Edinburgh before going back to Rangers in 2015.
Another round of solid, if not exactly dazzling, seasons ensued at Rangers before the twinkling lights of America lured him away to Colorado Rapids in 2018 for a depressingly familiar fee of £213k — not all American dreams are filled with dollars it seems.
Finding mild success across the sea with the Rapids, he nevertheless returned home in 2024, joining Queen's Park for a spell which was the football equivalent of a cup of tea, hardly even kicked the blooming grass, for ten games before shifting to Livingston. Lucky bugger wore that shirt for a respectable 38 league games and mercifully found the back of the net a handful of times.
He also got some fresh air in the League Cup and Prem. Play-offs, netting a few goals for his efforts, just so we don't forget that he's, you know, meant to score sometimes. Quite the journey, don't you think?
