Davy Klaassen (born 21 February 1993, age 33) is a Dutch central midfielder whose career has run, in the main, through Ajax. He wears number 18 and is valued at around £3m by Transfermarkt.
Ajax has been the steady centre of his football. Across 13 seasons he has made 282 league appearances for the club and scored 88 league goals, a return that says plenty about the way he plays. Klaassen has never been just a tidy midfielder keeping the ball moving; he has consistently arrived in scoring areas and taken a share of the burden that many midfielders leave to others.
His best league season came in 2016-17, when he scored 14 goals in 33 Ajax appearances. That was the clearest version of the player: disciplined enough to operate in midfield, but with the timing and appetite to turn possession into something more useful.
In 2026-27, Klaassen has remained involved across competitions for Ajax, with 16 appearances and four goals in all. That includes two goals in the European play-offs and two more in Conference League qualifying, along with Eredivisie, KNVB Beker and Champions League football.
Klaassen’s career is a straightforward one to read: a Dutch midfielder closely associated with Ajax, productive from central areas, and still contributing in a squad role rather than living on reputation alone.
