Allow me to present Djeidi Gassama to you, footy fans. Born in Mauritania on the 10th of September 2003, Gassama currently finds himself masquerading about the field as a winger for some outfit called Rangers. Notably, he cuts a diminutive figure at the side of the pitch, measuring up at 5 foot 9 inches (or 1.77 metres if the metric system is more your pint of mild). Despite his lack of stature, he trailblazes a path in the number 23 shirt with a healthy weight of 11 stone, or 70 kilograms if you'd rather.
The chaps over at Transfermarkt seem to think he's worth around £1.7m, quite the bag of silver if you ask me. Though it does make you wonder, could we perhaps spend that small fortune on a player who might make his name here at Parkhead instead of enriching some other club?
This travelling journeyman had the pleasure of starting his footy career in the esteemed environment of Paris Saint-Germain, darting about the French Ligue 1 for a bit back in the 2021/2022 season. Though I must say he didn't make much of an impression, only managing to lace his boots for one competitive fixture.
In September 2022, he decided that the Parisian delights were no longer for him and was off to Belgium for a bit of a holiday - excuse me, I mean a 'loan spell' with Eupen. Across the 2022/23 season, he saw a bit of a run, playing in 19 league games and even netting a couple of goals.
Yet, the Eiffel Tower and Belgian chocolates were abruptly supplanted by the mirth of Sheffield in August 2023. His sojourn in the Championship with Sheffield Wednesday saw him notch up a fairly respectable record. With about 78 appearances over two seasons and a rather modest haul of ten goals, he might have finally felt he'd made an impression. That is until July 2025, when the call of Haggis and Iron Bru got too strong.
Off he went to Rangers for a roundabout £2.2m. This season, he has donned the Rangers jersey for a grand total of five times. To his credit, he managed to poke in a few goals during the Champions League Qualifiers. Though I'd wager that flimsy achievement is hardly going to see him immortalised in footballing folklore, unlike the legends who have graced our beloved Celtic Park.
