Kabangu began his professional career at Gent in the Pro League, based in his homeland of Belgium. In August 2017, he was loaned to FC Eindhoven in the Eerste Divisie, an association in the Netherlands. The seasons 2017 - 2018 saw Kabangu make 38 appearances for the first team, netting ten goals, and in the following season, he played 36 times, scoring on eight occasions.
In August 2019, Kabangu made a move from Gent in Belgium to Willem II in the Netherlands' Eerste Divisie for an undisclosed fee. Whilst at Willem II, he made 28 first team appearances, scoring 12 goals during the 2022 - 2023 season. His tenure at Willem II also included a couple of leaner seasons, with his 2019 - 2020 and 2021 - 2022 seasons yielding 28 first team appearances and three goals.
Following his stint in the Netherlands, in July 2023, Kabangu transferred to Union Saint-Gilloise, a club in the Pro League of Belgium. Over two seasons, he made 19 appearances, and scored one goal.
Setting his sights on Scottish football, in January 2025, Kabangu moved on loan from Union Saint-Gilloise to Hearts in the Premiership. During his loan period, he played 14 times for the first team and scored six league goals. Following the successful loan spell, a full transfer to Hearts was sanctioned in July 2025 for a fee of roughly £210.5k.
In the ongoing 2025 - 2026 season, Kabangu has made six first team appearances for Hearts. He has also participated in the League Cup 2025 - 2026, scoring once in two starts and three substitute appearances, as well as featuring in the Scottish Cup 2024 - 2025, netting twice in four starts.
