Gianluca Scamacca, born on 1 January 1999 (age 27), is an Italian striker with Atalanta. A commanding 6ft 5in (1.95m) centre-forward, he wears the number 9 shirt and carries a market value of around £30m, according to Transfermarkt.
His development was not especially tidy, which is often the way with tall forwards asked to grow into their frame and their game at the same time. After coming through in Italy and spending time in the Netherlands as a young player, he built experience through loan spells, with those early moves giving him senior minutes rather than a smooth procession through one club’s system.
The important step came at Sassuolo. In 2021-22 he produced his most productive league season, scoring 16 goals in 36 appearances. That was the campaign that shifted him from promising striker to a more serious senior option, and it led to bigger moves and higher expectations.
He is now with Atalanta, where his current season has started in measured fashion: seven appearances and two goals across all competitions, including one goal in Serie A and one in Conference League qualifying. He has also represented Italy this season, making two appearances in European World Cup qualifiers.
Scamacca’s career has been shaped by movement, loans and a clear breakthrough at Sassuolo. At Atalanta, he remains an established Italian striker with size, penalty-box presence and enough production to keep him firmly in the senior international picture.
