Hyeon-gyu Oh, born on 12 April 2001 (age 25), came through in South Korea with Suwon Samsung Bluewings, where his 2022 league season – 13 goals in 36 appearances – made him a credible target beyond the K League.
Celtic signed him from Suwon in January 2023 for around £2.5m. He arrived as a young centre-forward with a bit of penalty-box edge, though his time in Glasgow was fairly contained rather than transformative. In July 2024, Celtic sold him to Genk for around £2.5m.
After Celtic, his career has moved through Genk and Besiktas. In 2025-26 he remained a regular first-team presence, making 20 league appearances for Genk and scoring six goals, then adding 13 league appearances and another six goals for Besiktas. He has also stayed involved with Korea Republic, scoring once in one World Cup appearance and four times across nine Asian qualifying appearances.
His market value is around £6m, according to Transfermarkt. Oh’s career so far has been a steady move from Suwon to Celtic, then on to Belgium and Turkey, with enough goals since leaving Glasgow to keep him relevant at club and international level.
