Jack Butland, born on 10 March 1993 (age 33), is an English goalkeeper now established as a regular first-team presence at Rangers. At 6ft 5in (1.96m), he is an imposing figure in goal, which has never exactly been a drawback in Scottish football.
His early senior development was helped by loan football, most notably at Cheltenham Town in 2011–12, where he made 24 league appearances. That spell gave him proper first-team work at a useful stage, rather than the more decorative kind of promise that tends to gather dust on a bench.
Butland later built a longer senior career across England, including a League Cup win away from Rangers, before moving to Ibrox. He remains central to their side in 2025–26, with 36 league appearances, plus games in the League Cup, Scottish Cup, Champions League qualifying and Europa League. Across all competitions this season he has made 53 appearances for Rangers.
His form has been solid overall, though there has been a dip in recent outings. His market value is around £1.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
Butland’s career has been shaped by early loan experience, a long spell in English football and his current role as Rangers’ first-choice goalkeeper. He is not a developing player now, but an established one still carrying a significant workload.
