James Penrice, born on 22 December 1998 (age 27), is a Scottish left-back now with Rangers. He came through at Partick Thistle, where his early development was helped by loan football rather than protected by it.
Those spells away from Firhill, including time at East Fife and Livingston, gave him senior minutes and a clearer route into the game. Livingston became the more important stop. His best league return came there in 2022-23, when he scored three goals in 29 appearances.
He was linked with a move to Celtic in June 2025 and again in July 2026. His current market value is around £2m on Transfermarkt.
In 2026-27, Penrice has made four league appearances for Rangers, along with one League Cup appearance in which he scored and two Conference League qualifier appearances. His Rangers total stands at seven appearances and one goal.
Penrice’s career has been built steadily: Partick Thistle, formative loan spells, a productive Livingston period, and now a place in the Rangers squad as an established Scottish left-back.
