João Palhinha, born in Lisbon on 9 July 1995 (age 30), is a Portugal international defensive midfielder with Bayern Munich. A commanding 6ft 3in (1.90m) presence, he has made a career from ball-winning, positioning and the less glamorous business of keeping a midfield intact.
He came through Sporting CP, but his development was shaped by time away from the club.
