Joe Newell, born on 15 March 1993 (age 33), is an English central midfielder with Hibernian, where he wears the number 11 shirt. He is not the sort of player whose career is best explained through noise: most of his value has come in the ordinary midfield work between the boxes.
His most productive league season came with Rotherham United in 2015–16, when he scored five times in 35 appearances. That remains the clear attacking high point of his senior career, though goals have never really been the main measure of his game.
In 2025–26, Newell has made 12 league appearances for Hibernian, scoring once, and has also featured once in the Scottish Cup. His season total stands at 13 appearances and one goal across all competitions, a plain return for an established first-team midfielder rather than a headline act.
