Johnny Kenny was born on 9 June 2003 (age 22) in Riverstown, County Sligo, and came through in Ireland before Celtic took him from Sligo Rovers in January 2022 for around £140,000. A striker by trade, he joined as a development signing rather than a finished article, which was sensible enough.
His Celtic career has taken time to settle. The most productive spell of his senior football so far came away from Glasgow, with Shamrock Rovers in 2024, when he scored 13 league goals in 29 appearances. That gave his progress a bit more substance than the usual promise attached to young forwards.
In 2025–26, Kenny made 15 league appearances for Celtic, scoring four times, before going on loan to Bolton Wanderers, where he added six goals in 14 league appearances. He has also appeared for the Republic of Ireland in European World Cup qualifying this season. His current market value is around £510,000, according to Transfermarkt.
Kenny remains a Celtic player, wearing squad number 24, but is currently building his senior record at Bolton. His career so far is that of a young Irish striker who earned a Celtic move early, found useful form elsewhere, and is still working out where his longer-term level sits.
