Born on the 20th of January, 1995 in Japan, Kyogo Furuhashi is a 30-year-old forward who primarily operates as a striker for Rennes. Standing at a height of 5 feet 6 inches (1.7m) and weighing in at 9st 12lbs (63kg), he sports the highly-venerated number 7 jersey. Beyond his club duties, Furuhashi proudly represents the Japanese national team.
An established talent in the footballing world, Furuhashi has accrued a market value to the tune of approximately £10m, as cited by Transfermarkt. He currently has roughly two years and three months remaining on his Rennes' contract, which is slated to end on the 30th of June, 2027.
Beginning his professional journey in January 2017, Furuhashi cut his teeth at FC Gifu in the Japan Lower Leagues, making 24 first team appearances and contributing five goals in his debut season. His voracious appetite for success led him to be transferred to Vissel Kobe from the J1 League in July 2018 for an estimated fee of £140,000. Here, he proved his prowess as a consistent scorer across multiple seasons, amassing an impressive tally of 42 goals in 95 appearances over four seasons.
Catching the eye of the Scottish giants, Celtic FC, in July 2021, Furuhashi was snapped up for an estimated fee of £4.6m. At Celtic, Furuhashi penned an impressive narrative of determination and success. In his debut season, he quickly found his footing, scoring 12 goals in 20 first-team appearances. The following 2022/23 season, saw him solidify his striking reputation, delivering an impressive score-sheet of 27 goals in 36 appearances. Supporters continued to sing his praises in the 2023/24 season, as he contributed 14 goals across 38 Celtic appearances. Currently, in the 2024/25 season, Furuhashi has bagged 10 goals in 22 appearances for the club.
However, the time came for Furuhashi to bid farewell to Celtic, and in January of 2025, he was transferred to Rennes in the French Ligue 1 for a hefty sum of roughly £10m. Although new to the squad, he has already made six appearances for the French side in the current season.
Furuhashi's international career has equally been noteworthy. He participated in the World Cup Qualifiers (Asia) 2024 - 2026 for Japan, making two appearances as a substitute.
