Ah, we are to talk about Lewis Mayo. Born slap bang in the middle of March on the 19th, the same year the Y2K bug was supposed to send us all back to the stone age, Mayo hails from Scotland. He's a hefty lad, non? Stands at a nice 6 foot 3 inches (that's about 1.91m for your modern types) and weighs in at a solid 12st 12lb (or 82kg, if you're partial to the metric scale). Loves a bit of attire does our Lewis, favours the number 5 jersey, wouldn’t be seen dead in anything else.
He got his wee toes wet back in July 2016 when he joined Rangers as a trainee. I remember it well. The boy spent more time on loan from 2020 onwards than a badly written library book, hopping between Partick Thistle, Dunfermline Athletic, and then back to Partick Thistle again. It must've been tiring.
Come July 2022, the wandering centre-back found himself trotting off to Kilmarnock, once again on loan. You have to give it to the lad, he does rack up the appearances. 34 of them in his début season at Killie, 36 in the next, and so far he's tallied 32 for this current season. Not too shabby, huh?
In case you were wondering, he finally cut the chord, as it goes, and transferred from Rangers to Kilmarnock for keeps in July 2023 for an utterly tantalising "undisclosed fee". Apparently, the Rangers' hierarchy were awfully keen we didn't laugh at the sum! He’s still plugging away, of course, with those aforementioned appearances and even managed to score a rare goal last season—almost fell off our seat for that one.
Mayo's certainly been given a taste of the competition life, too. Last year, he made one appearance in the League Cup, a solitary start in the Scottish Cup, a brace of starts in the Europa League qualifiers, and four kick-offs in the Conference League qualifiers. Quite the social butterfly!
