Marcelo Saracchi, born on 23 April 1998 (age 28), is a Uruguayan left-back who joined Celtic from Boca Juniors in August 2025. His earlier senior football included Danubio, where his most productive league season came in 2017 with two goals in 10 appearances.

At Celtic, Saracchi has been a regular first-team presence in 2025–26 without needing to be dressed up as anything more exotic. He has made 18 league appearances and scored once, with further outings in the League Cup, Scottish Cup and Europa League taking him to 25 appearances and one goal in all competitions.

His season has been solid, although he has not been in the matchday squad recently, with his last appearance coming in Celtic’s 3-1 win over Falkirk on 25 April 2026. He has also remained involved with Uruguay, making five appearances in South American World Cup qualifying this season.

Saracchi’s current market value is around £1.5m, according to Transfermarkt. For now, his Celtic career is that of an established international full-back who has come in from Boca, played regularly, and still has his place to reassert after a recent spell out of the squad.

Marcelo Saracchi has been used as a rotation left back in Celtic’s Premiership campaign, with 18 appearances split between eight starts and 10 substitute outings. His one league goal adds some output from a defensive role, but the start-sub balance points to a player trusted for depth and match management rather than established as an automatic first pick.

Saracchi’s average rating of 6.94 suggests broadly steady performance rather than standout form. The gap between his highest mark of 7.98 and lowest of 6.29 shows he has produced strong individual matches, but the overall profile is closer to reliable squad contribution than week-to-week dominance.

Saracchi’s recent career has been defined by movement across high-profile environments rather than long-term stability. The route from RB Leipzig to Galatasaray, Levante, Boca Juniors and now Celtic suggests a player with a strong pedigree, but also one who has had to rebuild momentum through loans and changes of league.

The transfer record shows a mixed pattern: a loan from RB Leipzig to Galatasaray, a return to Leipzig, a free transfer to Levante, a €1.6m move to Boca Juniors and then a loan to Celtic. That sequence points to a player who has moved down from the Bundesliga pathway, regained value in South America, and arrived at Celtic as a lower-risk loan option.
