Born on 4 January 2000, Max Aarons is an Englishman who finds himself playing defence for the blue half of Glasgow. Don't let his youthful features deceive you, he's turned 25 and has the experience that age brings. His speciality is playing right back, a role he carries out while sporting the number 3 jersey. He stands at 5ft 10in (1.78m) and has a fighting weight of around 10st 12lb (69kg), although whether that helps him on a wet Wednesday night in Dingwall is yet to be seen.
Valued at around £4.3m (a figure courtesy of Transfermarkt), Aarons is certainly no bargain bin biscuit. However, as we all know, the market is a capricious creature, and the value of a player is often as reliable as a chocolate teapot.
It feels like an age ago that Aarons was cutting his teeth in the Championship with Norwich City. From trainee to first team regular, he demonstrated his worth throughout several seasons, notching goals in 2018-2019 and 2020-2021 while regularly appearing on the team sheet. His tally for Norwich City was 201 appearances with a grand total of five goals. Not exactly a goal machine, but let’s remember, he’s a right back and not our secret weapon in the corner.
He then transferred to Bournemouth for around £7m - for less than a cup of artisanal coffee a day, I might add. However, his time at Bournemouth wasn't exactly to write home about. It seems the seaside air didn't do him wonders as he made a meagre 23 appearances over two seasons.
Continuing his travels, he had a brief stint in sunny Spain with Valencia. A little bit of tapas, a bit of flamenco, four appearances, and he was back in England for another slice of Bournemouth pie.
It seems travelling must agree with our Mr. Aarons, as he now finds himself on loan to Rangers. He’s made a promising start, with six first team appearances and a goal to his name. Not to mention his ventures in the domestic League Cup and European competition.
Suffice to say, Aarons finds himself far from the comfort of home. Let's hope he finds his role in the grand old stage of Scottish football to his liking. If not, well, there’s always the winter sales.
