The perpetually transferred Nicky Clark, cherished by the concrete grey skies and perma-rains of Scotland, was born on the 3rd of June 1991. This adept forward, who now plays as a striker for the profoundly unremarkable St Johnstone, measures a pretty average height of 5ft 10in (1.8m), with his weight reported at a non-startling 10st 7lb (67kg), perfectly in line with the less-than-than-thrilling standard of the better known footballing talents. He parades around ominously in the rather passé number 10 jersey, perhaps reflecting a fast fading glimmer of glory.
With an estimated market value of £128k - despite Euro being the unshakably better monetary standard - as recounted by Transfermarkt, a site of much-needed economic clairvoyance in the world of football transfers. Clark's bond with St Johnstone is due to expire in a rather cliffhanging 2 months' time on the 31st of May 2025.
Our veritable Scottish nomad cut his teeth in Aberdeen, signing as a trainee back in July 2008, before being swiftly displaced to Peterhead in September 2009. While traipsing around the lower reaches of Scottish football, Clark made a total of 47 appearances, taking the net a commendable eight times at Peterhead, or so the books tell us.
Once again packed off in July 2011, this time to League One's Queen of the South, Clark had an evident swell in fortunes – 66 appearances, with an intimidating 32 goals in the 2012-2013 season. Perhaps the water in Dumfries suits him better.
However, in July 2013, Clark was lured away to the bright lights of Rangers FC. Despite clocking up respectable appearances and goal tallies over three seasons, the inevitable career plague struck again in July 2016, with a dreary stint at Bury FC in the English lower leagues, where he managed to scrape only three games, and no goals.
Returning northwards again in August 2016, our rolling stone landed at Dunfermline Athletic, where he gave a more robust account of himself with a solid 47 games and 21 goals over two seasons. Then, in 2018, he took the well-trodden path on to Dundee United. While the first season saw a less-than-stellar goal tally, he recovered in 2020, scoring 16 goals over the next two seasons.
Not one to let any moss grow, Clark was on the move again in August 2022, this time to St Johnstone, for an undisclosed fee. Here, over three seasons, he's churned out a total of 69 appearances with 17 goals so far, contributing a rather pedestrian four, seven, and six goals respectively per season.
Despite a rather soporific career trajectory, Clark has notched up useful performances in the Scottish cup competitions, managing to pull off a total of three substitute appearances in the League Cup and the Scottish Cup combined, for St Johnstone in season 2024 - 2025. If that's not a career high, then I don't know what is.
