Ryan Mullen, our wandering national export, was born in Scotland on 18 May 2001 - making him a sprightly 24 years old. Standing tall at 6ft 2in (that's 1.88m for metric lovers), and weighing in at tip-top 12st 8lb (80kg), you'd almost think he was moulded for the uncertain life of a goalkeeper. It should therefore come as no surprise that he wears #31 at St Mirren. You know, the Premiership club up in Paisley.
But we're getting ahead of ourselves. You see, back in September 2020, fair Mullen took a wee loan ride from Celtic over to League One's Cove Rangers. A brief escape, some might say, from the demanding life at the top of Scottish Premiership. But as all good loans must, this one eventually ended, and in October 2020 the prodigal son returned to Celtic.
However, the grass is always greener and in March 2021 Mullen was back on his loan horse, this time galloping over to the Championship team, Queen's Park. His Premiership training clearly exposed as overkill, within but a few short months he was back in the loving, albeit chaotic, arms of the big C.
Perhaps not one to take a hint, or simply a glutton for punishment, Mullen scurried off to Clyde in League Two in September 2022. An unforgettable debut season saw him make an astounding three first team appearances. They must've been so impressed; he was shipped off to Greenock Morton the next year.
Greenock Morton, the Championship team, ushered in an era of football stability for Mullen. Seasons 2023 - 2024 and 2024 - 2025 saw him notching up 23 and 24 first team appearances, respectively. But as we've come to expect, this peace was short-lived and in July 2025 he found himself at St Mirren in the Premiership. Here he stands today, already on two first team appearances for the current season 2025 - 2026 and eager for more.
And it doesn't stop there. He's already been thrown into the competitive deep-end with a start in both the League Cup 2025 - 2026 and the Scottish Cup 2025 - 2026 for St Mirren. Say what you will about Mullen, he doesn't shy from a challenge.
