Shane Blaney, hailing from the Emerald Isle, was born on a cold day in January, the 20th of 1999, to be precise. Now at the ripe age of 26, this defence-minded footballer has made his mark primarily as a central defender, playing for the Livingston based in Scotland. When it comes to body measurements, Shane doesn't fall short. Standing tall at an approximate 6ft 3in (1.91m), with a weight corresponding to 12st 6lb (79kg), he's a sturdy and imposing figure on football turf. He wears the number 4 jersey like a true warrior.
When it comes to value, Blaney is currently assessed to have a market value of roughly £255k, according to reliable Transfermarkt figures.
His journey in the world of football began as a trainee with Finn Harps in the Republic of Ireland's First Division in January 2016. He had a rather quiet debut season in 2017, having made just three first team appearances in league matches. Not long afterwards, the January of 2018 saw him transferring to Doncaster Rovers in England's League One for a fee that remains undisclosed.
But stay he did not. Just six months later, in July 2018, he shifted affiliations to Tamworth in the National League in England in a loan transfer. This loan concluded in November 2018, bringing him back to his previous station, Doncaster Rovers.
After another year and a half or so, Blaney transferred once again, this time to an unknown club in June 2020.
January 2021 saw Blaney returning home, joining Sligo Rovers in the Premier Division in the Republic of Ireland. Blaney kept a moderate pace during his time there, making 12 first team appearances and scoring a solitary goal in league matches during the 2021 season. He upped the ante in the following season, making as many as 25 first team appearances.
It was the turn of the calendar to 2023 that marked a turning point in his career. This saw him transferring from Sligo Rovers to Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership. Blaney made a total of 8 league appearances during the 2022-2023 season, which he then upgraded to 24 appearances and two goals in the following season. He cut a sharp downturn in appearances in the 2024-2025 season, making only 11 first team appearances.
He once again switched sides in July 2025, transferring from Motherwell to Livingston, also in the Scottish Premiership. At present, during the 2025-2026 season, Blaney has made five first team appearances for Livingston. Furthermore, he has shown his scoring prowess in the League Cup 2025-2026 by netting one goal, from one start plus two appearances as a substitute.
