Stuart Armstrong, born in Inverness on 30 March 1992 (age 34), came through at Dundee United before Celtic took him to Glasgow in February 2015 for around £2m. A Scotland midfielder with a neat left-footed balance to his game, he arrived as a player with obvious ability rather than a finished article.
His best Celtic season came in 2016–2017, when he scored 15 league goals in 31 appearances from midfield. That was the spell when he looked most at home: direct enough to hurt teams, tidy enough to keep Celtic moving, and productive in a way central midfielders are often praised for promising rather than delivering.
Armstrong left Celtic in July 2018, joining Southampton for around £7m. His career after Glasgow has taken in Southampton, Vancouver Whitecaps, Sheffield Wednesday and Aberdeen, a varied route rather than a gentle slide through predictable stops.
He remains a regular first-team presence with Aberdeen in 2025–2026. Wearing squad number 14, he has made 36 appearances in all competitions, including 28 in the league, with one goal. His current market value is around £510,000, according to Transfermarkt.
Armstrong’s career has stretched from Dundee United promise to a productive Celtic spell, a £7m move to England, and later stops in Canada, England and Scotland. At Aberdeen, he is still involved often enough to matter, without the profile needing any embroidery.
