Wout Weghorst, born on 7 August 1992 (age 33), is a Netherlands striker with Ajax, wearing squad number 25. At 6ft 6in (1.97m), he has always been an imposing centre-forward, though his career has been built on more than simply standing taller than centre-halves.
He came through in Dutch football with Emmen before moving on to Heracles Almelo and AZ, where his scoring became harder to ignore. Wolfsburg then gave him the platform for his most productive league season, with 20 goals in 34 appearances in 2020-2021.
His move to Burnley took him into English football, but it was the loan spells that followed which gave his career a different shape. Besiktas, Manchester United and Hoffenheim all used him in distinct roles, from penalty-box striker to awkward pressing presence. None of it was especially subtle, but Weghorst has rarely been a player built for subtlety.
Ajax brought him back to the Eredivisie, and he remains a regular first-team presence in 2025-2026. He has made 34 appearances and scored nine goals for Ajax in all competitions, including 27 league appearances and eight league goals, plus five Champions League appearances with one goal. His current market value is around £3.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
He has also stayed involved with the Netherlands, making six World Cup qualifying appearances this season. Weghorst’s career has moved through the Netherlands, Germany, England and loan spells of varying texture, but he is still doing first-team work at a serious club rather than living off reputation.
