Jon Gorenc Stanković, born on 14 January 1996 (age 30), is a Slovenian defensive midfielder whose career has been shaped overwhelmingly at Sturm Graz. Commanding at 6ft 3in (1.90m), he is the sort of player built for the harder work in the middle of the pitch rather than the showier parts of it.
Sturm is where his senior career has taken proper form. Across seven seasons he has made 176 league appearances and scored 15 league goals, with his most productive league campaign coming in 2021-22, when he scored four times in 30 matches. That is a solid body of work, and not the kind usually built on passing through.
In 2026-27, he has remained involved for Sturm Graz across domestic and European football, making 12 appearances in all competitions and scoring once, in Champions League qualifying. He has also played twice for Slovenia in European World Cup qualifying. His current market value is around £3.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
Stanković’s career is, in plain terms, a Sturm Graz career: long-serving, functional, and rooted in regular football at a good Austrian level, with Slovenia involvement alongside it.
